My career began at John Keells, where I worked across market research, promotions and campaign execution while completing my postgraduate studies in marketing. It was where I first learned the discipline behind good marketing: understanding the customer, coordinating people well, and turning an idea into something that works beyond the meeting room.
I later worked on the Mastercard Sri Lanka front-office account, representing the brand in discussions with prospective business partners. I worked with leading hotels, fashion brands and other established businesses, secured partnership MOUs on Mastercard's behalf, and coordinated promotional campaigns between the brand and participating partners. That experience taught me how to present an opportunity clearly, earn the confidence of decision-makers, and build relationships that moved from conversation to agreement.
At MIT Cargo / Hayleys Advantis, I worked in an international B2B environment where communication had to be clear, responsive and commercially aware. It strengthened my understanding of client relationships and the importance of reliability in service-led businesses.
Then my perspective shifted from supporting businesses to helping build one.
As Co-founder and Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy at The VoV, I helped build Sri Lanka's first fully vegan restaurant brand from the ground up. I worked across brand positioning, identity, content, customer engagement, supplier relationships and community initiatives, while also being close to the day-to-day realities of running the business.
That experience changed the way I think about brands. A decision can look perfect on paper and still fail in practice. Good branding has to make sense to the business, feel right to the customer and remain consistent in the small details people actually experience.
Alongside this, I developed an independent creative practice using Adobe Illustrator and digital tools, creating logos, menus, campaign artwork, social content and visual identities for individuals and small businesses. It gave me the hands-on side of the work as well: taking an idea and shaping it into something people can see, use and respond to.
Today, I bring those experiences together across brands, websites, messaging and customer journeys. I think commercially, communicate with people in mind, and care about the details that shape how a business is understood.
